Week 24 - full steam ahead!

Trades on site again this Saturday morning, so managed to get in for a sneak peek and looks like it's been another busy couple of weeks...

The tiling has been laid and is almost done, with just the grouting to go. The correct kitchen drawers have been installed. All the benchtops have been put in, save for the waterfall edge (which probably goes in after the flooring). Most of the robes have been installed, save for the doors (probably after the carpet is laid). All the tapware was being installed this morning and will be finished today. The baths have been delivered to site. Fly screen, security system and termite protection also done.

And as we were leaving, our timber floor boards were being delivered to site, in time for the flooring apparently to start on Monday!... it's all happening ☺

  1. Hey Pazz,
It's coming along great. I like the shower head, looks nice. Was the alarm from CG or did you organise that yourself?
My laundry looks similar to yours, do you think there is enough light coming in? I am thinking about adding a small window next to the door but looking at your laundry it looks like there is enough light. Also nice wardrobes too, what sort of ball park figure did it cost you for that setup? I can't decide whether to add it part of the plan or to do get my own cabinet maker in to build it...

  2. Hi Shibuya

The alarm was part of the security system which we selected at our electricals appointment, so yes through CG. You also have the option of additional keypads, e.g. we got two, one for the front door and one for the garage internal access door.

My laundry is on the south side which doesn't get any direct sunlight, but as you can see from the photo the fully glazed door let's plenty of light in. I'm not sure the cost of putting in another window is worth it, and think the money could be better spent elsewhere, e.g. additional down lights under the overhead cupboards if you have any (as a busy mum a lot of my laundry's done in the evening).

As for the robes, it really depends on budget and the size of the WIR. From memory, the white melamine ones in bedrooms 2, 3, 4 etc were not too expensive and probably worth it as I don't think you'll save much doing it after. Also note that they're fitted before the carpet is put in for a nicer floor finish, so doing it after means they'll be over the carpet.

The laminate BIR modules in the Master WIR were expensive but again, depends on budget and size as we had 5.2 metres of wall in our WIR to be fitted. So if your WIR isn't too big, it's probably worth at least asking CG to give you the cost for all, then you can still remove some or all of your selections once you've compared with your cabinet maker's quote.

*Note: the photo of the Master BIR/WIR is not representative of the actual modules displayed at Byron Interiors which was what we selected (i.e. there should also be sides and back laminate panels and not plastered wall). I have today emailed our SS querying this and requesting that they be replaced for the BIR modules we've selected and paid for... will post update.

  3. Just an update on the BIR modules following previous comment. Heard back from SS who confirmed that there was an error by the contractor, who have been made aware and will rectify as soon as possible. So all good ☺

  5. Hi guys, we are building with CG at the moment and have been pretty happy up till now. We are at the stage where we are getting our heating and cooling installed and noticed they hadn't installed 2 heating vents that we requested. It turns out that they were removed, along with a downgrade to our heating/cooling unit (from 22kw to 18kw) in a variation that we never saw (CG admitted their fault).

I am concerned going to the 18kw unit as i would expect the 22kw would better service our house (46 squares). And I would have thought the 22kw unit would have been able to handle the additional 2 vents that we requested.

Do you guys have a 22kw or 18kw unit. if you have the 18kw unit, have you found it suitable for your new home?

    thanks in advance.

    1. Hi Mitch,

Our house is 47 squares, over 10 squares of which are outdoor area & garage, so effectively it's approx. 36 squares of indoor space.

Interestingly, after the heating/cooling contractor's review, our unit was upgraded from 18kw to 22kw with a couple of additional vents, which I find is perfectly adequate for our space and suits our eeds.

So if I were you, under no circumstances would I settle for this error which CG has already acknowledged fault for, and I would absolutely insist that they rectify it asap.

We're now almost 6 months in and still waiting for some items to be completed and issues resolved. Since handing over that final cheque, takes forever to get CG's attention, so while you've got the upper hand, use it!
