Week 33 - Happy New Year! ☺

Both our administrator and SS were back on deck last Monday (11 Jan) and although we got a bit worried last week as we couldn't see much action happening on the site (except for the fence which has been taken down), we were reassured today after receiving an email advising that all was on track for a final inspection and settlement next Wednesday 27/Thursday 28 January (to be confirmed)... which is just as well as we'd already given notice and must be out of the rental by 31 January after which we'll be on the street (but I'm sure that Carter Grange won't let that happen ☺)

So my next post will most likely be after we have moved in!... how exciting, we cannot wait to be in the new house and make it our home ☺... in the meantime, here's a little update of some photos (most of which were taken before xmas).

We can finally see it!

  1. Great Pictures - will be great to see it finished. How did you manage to get the fittings done in the bathrooms prior to handover?

  2. Thanks Patrick.
We used CG's referral, Ray of F'Niche. His brochure/contact details were in the pack we got from Byron Interiors after our selections appointment, but if not I'm sure Maddie or Molly can give it to you.
As CG's worked with him before, they were happy to give him access (Ray liaised with our site supervisor directly). He went in pre-plaster to put in the extra noggins required for extra support, then went back during completion stage to install all the bathroom accessories.

  3. House looks very nice Pazz, well done! What timber floor did you end select?

  4. Thanks Shibuya.
We chose the engineered euro oak floor boards in the end, which I think is one down from hardwood floors (too $$). I initially wanted a lighter/lime wash colour, but we went with 'washed khaki' which has a more natural timber look and am pretty happy with the result in the end :)

  5. It's a good choice, it looks very nice. We are going with the cobana brown french oak.

  6. Hi Pazz,
How wide is your glass panel in the shower? Ours are 935mm wide but I am worried that it may be too short and water will still splash out.

    1. Hi Shibuya, I had the same concern so asked for the glass panel to be 1100mm wide which, if your shower area is the standard 1800mm wide, it will leave an opening of 700mm wide, as long as your comfortable with that. To put it perspective most internal doors are 800mm wide, but as this has no doors and is just an opening to get in and out, we felt 700mm wide would be fine. I would increase the width of your glass panel at least to 1000mm or more if you can as 935mm seems a bit short to me. Good luck :)

    2. Thanks Pazz, yeah I will increase the width to minimum 1000mm

    1. Thanks Montrose, we are slowly getting there but I have to say it hasn't been the smoothest :/
I'll post an update shortly, when we're a bit more settled in and I have a bit more time ;)

  8. Hi Pazz,
Hopefully it's been smooth sailing for you now. Just wondering what tiles you used in the bathroom and ensuite. They look like something that I am after too.

    1. Hi Shibuya, sorry for the late reply.
I'm very happy with the WALL tiles in both the bathroom (matt white rectified edge 300x600) and the ensuite (teakwood light grey rectified 300x600), but I would strongly advised against the FLOOR tiles (simplicity dark grey matt 300x600).
They have been nothing but trouble, with National Tiles having to come and inspect, and still waiting for CG to address/fix the issue.
If you haven't yet chosen your tiles, or if you still have the opportunity to change even at a cost, then I would recommend the simplicity dark grey 300x300 instead which I used on the ground floor and wish I did the same upstairs.

  9. Hi Pazz
Hope you're loving your new home.
Are you happy with your benchtop heights? Are they in accordance with plans?
    Thanks

    1. Hi Montrose,
      Sorry for the late reply.
Are you referring to the kitchen benchtops? If so, then yes I'm happy with the height which are according to plans at 900mm above the finished timber flooring.
The benchtops in the bathrooms are slightly lower though, but also according to plans at 800mm... though if I had to do it again I would have the ones in the bathroom at 850mm, as they do feel a bit low, but thankfully we're not very tall :)

  10. are the roof tiles concrete or TC?

    1. Hi there, sorry for the late reply.

The roof tiles are concrete, they're the Monier Horizon ones which are flat so though not terracotta looks the part, and cheaper to replace should we ever need to ;)

We also upgraded (not that expensive) to 'A-line' ridges to keep with the flatter.

But one thing we really regret not doing and which I really think CG could have mentioned (as you know they don't really put things forward :/) is adding sarking underneath the roof tiles which is not a standard, but worth the upgrade in my opinion.
